Baseball bat altercation leads to arrest

A 38-year-old St.Thomas man has been arrested following an argument involving a baseball bat.

It happened early Friday night in a Talbot street residence parking lot.

Just before St. Thomas police had arrived, a man had threatened and swung a baseball bat at another man. The pair had exchanged harsh words with each other and agreed to ‘discuss’ the situation further behind the building.

According to police, while the victim drove to get to the back of the residence, the accused entered his apartment and grabbed a wooden baseball bat.

The accused then met with the man and was swinging the bat at him and threatened his life. The victim, fearing for his safety stayed inside his vehicle and drove away to report the incident to police.

Police caught up with the assailant and he was arrested a short time later and charged with assault with a weapon, weapon dangerous to the public peace and uttering death threats.

The accused was later released with a future court date.

No injuries were reported.
