UPDATE: Elderly woman hit by pickup truck in Ingersoll

An elderly woman has been rushed to hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Ingersoll.

The Ontario Provincial Police said the collision was reported by a witness at around 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday.  Officers said the 84-year-old woman was walking west across Thames Street South when she was hit by a pick-up truck travelling south on Thames Road South.

The woman was taken to a local hospital to be treated for serious injuries. It is unknown if her condition is life-threatening.

The driver of the pickup truck remained on scene and is cooperating with police.

Thames Street South was closed between St. Andrew Street and Charles Street for around three hours while emergency crews and investigators were at the scene.  Police have not said if any charges will be laid in connection with the collision.
