Two killed in separate crashes in Oxford

Two men are dead following two separate crashes eight hours apart in Oxford County.

Emergency crews were called to a single vehicle crash on Potters Road, south of Otterville around 7 a.m. on Tuesday. According to Oxford OPP, an eastbound SUV veered off the roadway and rolled before coming to rest in a nearby field.

A man inside the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Four other men, who were also inside the vehicle, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Potters Road between Middletown Line and Summerville Line was closed for several hours as police investigated the cause of the crash.

Hours earlier, a 52-year-old motorcyclist was killed when his bike and a pickup truck collided north of Embro.

Both vehicles were heading north on Oxford Road 6 near Road 88 in Zorra Township when the crash happened around 10:56 p.m. on Monday. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver of the pickup was not hurt.

The crash closed the stretch of road for roughly eight hours. It has since been reopened.

Police are not releasing the name of either of the deceased men until their families are notified.

This week has proven to be a dangerous one on southwestern Ontario roads, especially for motorcycles.

A motorcyclist was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Hamilton Road at Breen Road in the Dorchester area around 7:30 p.m. Monday night. A separate crash an hour later saw two people taken to hospital with "life-altering" injuries after a motorcycle and van collided near Simcoe. On Sunday, a motorcyclist was seriously hurt when she lost control going around a bend on Roberts Line near Sunset Drive, south of St. Thomas.
