Virtue, Moir to get hometown Walk of Fame plaques

Months after receiving their stars on Canada's Walk of Fame, Olympic gold medalists and Canadian figure skating darlings Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir will get plaques in their hometowns next week.

The ice dancers were inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame last December. As part of that honour, plaques will be mounted at Museum London for Virtue and at the Ilderton Arena for Moir in special ceremonies being held at each location next Wednesday.

Moir's plaque will be unveiled at 1 p.m., while Virtue's plaque will be unveiled at 5 p.m.

The ice dancing duo will accept the honour in person. They will be joined by Canada's Walk of Fame CEO Jeffrey Latimer, London Mayor Ed Holder, Middlesex Centre Mayor Aina DeViet, and spoken-word poet Wali Shah.

Each of the hometown star plaque unveilings will also include surprise guests, but no hint as to who they might be has been given.

Presented by Cineplex, Canada’s Walk of Fame Hometown Stars was launched in 2017 as a way to provide inductees with an additional chance to celebrate their national honour in the town in which they grew up. The location of the plaque is selected by each inductee or their family.

Virtue and Moir are the most decorated ice dancers in Olympic history, having won a total of three gold medals and two silvers. They were among the 2018 Walk of Fame inductees, which also included legendary musician and novelist Leonard Cohen, astronaut Colonel Chris Hadfield, and comedienne and actress Andrea Martin.

The unveiling ceremonies of Virtue and Moir's hometown plaques will be open to the public and free to attend.
