Four hospitalized after van hits buggy

Three children and a man were taken to hospital after a van hit a horse-drawn buggy in Oxford County.

According to the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police, the collision happened Wednesday around 10 a.m. on Oxford Road 92 between the 15th Line and 19th Line of Zorra Township. Police said both the buggy and the van were heading in the same direction when the collision occured and it appeared that the van was trying to pass the buggy.

A police spokesman said one of the injured children, a 2-year-old, was thrown from the buggy and suffered serious injuries. A 7-year-old, a 9-year-old, and a 41-year-old also suffered serious injuries.

The horse was also injured. Police said its injuries were minor and it was walked home from the scene.

“If you are travelling on the backroads, especially in Oxford County and surrounding areas where it’s known for horse and buggies, please do me and favour and pay attention,” Sanchuk said in the video. “This collision did not need to happen.”

The driver of the van, 84-year-old Richard Tasker of Zorra Township has been charged with careless driving contrary.
