Police seeking woman who was almost hit by drunk driver

Police in St. Thomas are hoping the public can help them find a woman who was almost hit by a very impaired driver.

According to the St. Thomas Police Service, the woman was standing in the area of Curtis Street and East Street around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. She had to step out of the way of a vehicle that made a wide turn onto East Street from Curtis Street and hopped the curb.

Police stopped the vehicle determined that the driver had been drinking.

"The driver was arrested and taken into custody at the Colin McGregor Justice building where breath samples indicated he had four times the legal limit of alcohol in his system," police said in a news release issued Friday.

The 40-year-old man is charged with impaired driving.

Officers looked for the woman, but she had already left the area. She is described as being middle-aged with brown hair and wearing a blue shirt.

Police are asking the woman, or anyone who might know who she is, to call the St. Thomas Police Service at 519-631-1224.
