UPDATE: Collision in Norwich Township sends five to hospital

A head-on collision in Norwich Township sent five people to hospital on Saturday.

Around 4:29 p.m., OPP, Oxford OPP along with the Norwich Township Fire Department and Oxford County EMS responded to a collision on Highway 59.

Police say the driver, a 63 year-old-woman of South West Oxford, and two 36-year old women were travelling southbound on Highway 59.

The driver had crossed over the center line and hit a pickup truck pulling a boat head-on. The driver and passenger of the pickup truck, both 33-years-old from Kitchener, suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the SUV was extricated by firefighters and all five of the passengers were taken to a local hospital. One of the passengers in the SUV was then airlifted to a London hospital and was treated for serious life-threatening injuries. All five patients were in stable condition on Saturday. On Sunday, it was revealed that the passenger that was previously airlifted is now in critical condition.

OPP are still investigating and charges are pending.

OPP reopened Highway 59 between Gunns Hill Rd and Old School Line on Saturday and closed the road for an investigation on Sunday. Police have since reopened the road.

Anyone that witnessed the collision and did not stop to speak to police is being urged to contact the Oxford County OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.
