Londoners took to the streets Friday afternoon, joining many Canadians in calling attention to climate change.
Hundreds of participants, representing all ages and carrying colourful signs with slogans on them, gathered at Victoria Park near City Hall for a "climate strike." This was intended to call attention to the issue of climate change before politicians amid an election campaign. The rally was followed by a march through the streets of the downtown core, leading back to City Hall.

The London event was one of the scores taking place all over Canada as climate change is cemented as an election-cycle issue. The four leading major Canadian political parties have been rolling out the climate change planks of their election platforms this week.
The biggest "climate strike" took place in Montreal, where a crowd of about half a million people turned out. Swedish teen Greta Thunberg, who made waves this week at the United Nations Climate Summit in New York with a fiery speech criticizing politicians on the subject, was a speaker.
