UPDATE: Man facing numerous charges after downtown shooting

A man is in custody and facing over a dozen charges as police continue to investigate an early morning shooting in the city's downtown area.

According to police, around 2:15 a.m. Sunday they received a number of call regarding shots fired in a city-owned parking lot west of Richmond Street between Kent Street and Albert Street.

Numerous officers went to the area where a male suspect was located and arrested. A firearm was also located nearby.

As a result, 24-year-old Eliase Surafel of London has been charged with:

  • One count of attempted murder
  • Three counts of aggravated assault
  • Three counts of discharge firearm with intent to wound or endanger life
  • Use a firearm in the commission of an indictable offence
  • Point a firearm
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Unlicensed person possess a restricted weapon
  • Unlicensed person possess a loaded restricted firearm
  • Possess firearm while prohibited
  • Breach of recognizance
These charges have not been proven in court. Surafel remains in custody and is scheduled to make a court appearance via video on Sunday afternoon.

Three victims were transported to the London Health Sciences Centre and are in stable condition.  Police believe this is an isolated incident and no further threat exists to the public.
