Alleged thief who targeted grieving families facing dozens of further charges

A Dutton-Dunwich woman is facing 48 additional charges related to a series of break-ins that occurred while families were away at funerals.

Krystle Oag, 45, was arrested early last month following a sudden rise in the number of homes in Middlesex and Elgin counties being burglarized while the owners were attending a funeral service.  Several items were stolen during the break-ins including a large number of guns, which have since been recovered by police.

Police announced on Thursday that she is now facing additional charges in connection with those incidents, including 23 counts of break and enter, seven counts of theft of a motor vehicle, six counts of stealing a firearm during a break and enter, 11 counts of possession of property obtained by crime, and one count of break and enter with the intent to steal a firearm.

Oag was initially charged with 16 counts of possession of property obtained by crime, 18 counts of possession of a firearm obtained by crime, four counts of careless storage of a firearm obtained by crime, three counts of possession of a prohibited device, removing vehicle identification number, a single count of break and enter, obstructing a peace officer and possession of break-in instruments.

Ian Scott, 55, was also charged with a similar number of offences in connection with the break and enters back in early November.

Anyone with further information regarding these incidents or those with outstanding property is asked to contact the Elgin County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
