Business Cares Food Drive breaks record

It was another record breaking year for the Business Cares Food Drive in London.

Officials released the totals from this year's drive on Friday morning. The 20th edition of the Business Cares Food Drive brought in a record 476,000 pounds of food and cash donations, eclipsing last year's total by 7.4 per cent. The total amount takes into consideration the actual amount of food donated and what would be purchased with the cash donations.

“The generosity of the people and businesses in London never ceases to amaze me,” said campaign chair Wayne Dunn. “Early in the campaign, we were worried that we weren’t going to be able to meet our goal – the weather really conspired against us during Grocery Store weekend and it set us a back a bit. But this campaign is more of a marathon than a sprint. And we were humbled to see Londoners from all walks of life running along side of us. Together we were able to reach our goal."

The food drive asks businesses of all sizes to donate non-perishables and money to ensure the food bank and the 25 agencies it supplies have enough on their shelves to feed those in need over the holidays and beyond. This year, more than 300 local companies took part.

“We are truly honoured and grateful to the people of London for helping us make a positive difference in so many lives," said London Food Bank co-executive director Jane Roy.
