Knights add defenceman Phillips

The London Knights have bolstered their blue line in a trade with the Guelph Storm.

The Knights announced Wednesday morning that they acquired over-age defenceman Markus Phillips in exchange for three draft picks. The Storm will get from the Knights Hamilton’s second-round selection in 2023, Barrie’s third-round selection in 2021, and a fourth-round selection in 2021.

Phillips, a fourth-round draft pick of the L.A. Kings, is in his final year in the OHL. After winning an OHL championship with the Storm last season, he began this season with the AHL's Ontario Reign before being sent to the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL and then back to Guelph.

“Markus is a veteran player that brings a lot of experience to our blueline," said Knights General Manager Mark Hunter. "He was a large part of the Storm’s championship run last season and we believe he will be a strong addition to our team.”

Phillips was also a member of Team Canada at last year's World Junior Hockey Championships.
