Street preacher charged for yelling at women in driveway

One of London's infamous street preachers is facing more charges after two women practicing yoga in their driveway were yelled at over the weekend.

The women were in the middle of a workout outside of their Raymond Avenue home when a man began shouting at them around 10:40 a.m. on Saturday. London police were called and quickly located a man nearby who was allegedly still continuously yelling at the women. Police did not specify what the man was yelling at the women.

Matthew Anthony Carapella, 33, of London has been charged with mischief.

Carapella is one of two men who are known for preaching on the streets of London, often generating complaints from women who accuse the pair of yelling sexist and misogynistic comments at them.

They were charged last April with mischief relating to religious property after female parishioners inside the Elmwood Avenue Presbyterian Church were verbally attacked during a church service. A month before that, they were charged with five counts under the city’s amended public nuisance bylaw that prohibits unnecessary interference with the use and enjoyment of public space.

Carapella and his co-defendant are expected to appear in London court in relation to the previously laid charges next month.
