Students at Fanshawe College who are experiencing financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic will soon have somewhere to turn.
The college announced on Thursday that it will be offering financial assistance through a newly established a $1.5 million Student Emergency Fund to help those who are experiencing unforeseen financial challenges.
With educational institutions such as Fanshawe closed across the province due to the pandemic, the college acknowledged that many students are facing economic hardships and anxieties.
“These are very stressful times for our students and we are concerned for their well-being,” said Michele Beaudoin, vice-president of Student Services, in a news release. “This emergency fund will provide some financial relief to those most in need. It is during difficult times that people really come together to help each other. We sincerely appreciate all offers of assistance and thank those who have already contributed to the fund.”
The emergency fund will provide short-term support of up to $500 for financially vulnerable students. The funds will be distributed to students who have the greatest need first, with more funding possible as additional funds are raised through the support of donors and the Fanshawe Student Union.
Students will be able to apply for the emergency fund starting on Monday at 10 a.m. Click here for more information.
