Ontario's law enforcement oversight agency is investigating after a London teen suffered a medical emergency after being arrested by police in Leamington.
The Ontario Provincial Police said officers responded to Satinwood Crescent at around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday after a 21-year-old victim suffered a stab wound.
While at the scene, the officers arrested a 17-year-old from London on an unrelated matter. The teen was taken to the OPP detachment in Leamington before suffering an undisclosed "medical event". The teen, who cannot be identified under the Ontario Youth Criminal Justice Act, was then taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was notified of the incident by the OPP and it has since invoked its mandate. The SIU investigates incidents involving police officers and members of the public that have resulted in death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the SIU.
