Anyone who has ever attended a London Majors game knows Labatt Memorial Park is truly a gem of a ballpark, with its natural grass and close proximity to the Forks of the Thames.
Now fans of the park can ensure it gets its rightful crown as the best ballpark in the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL).
The IBL launched its Best of the Ballparks competition on Thursday. In a series of three rounds, ball fans will get to cast their votes for the league's best venue. The first round has Labatt Park up against Dominico Field at Christie Pits, the home of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Barrie Baycat's Coates Stadium goes up against the home of the Guelph Royals, David E. Hastings Stadium. The Brantford Red Sox's Arnold Anderson Stadium is pitted against the Hamilton Cardinal's Carstar Field at Bernie Arbour Stadium and the Jackfish's Welland Stadium is going field-to-field with the Kitchener Panthers' Jack Couch Park.
On June 11, the four parks in the first round to receive the most votes will move onto the semi-finals. The final round of voting begins on June 18.
Labatt Park is known as the world's oldest baseball grounds. Established in 1877 and originally named Tecumseh Park, it spans 8.7 acres. It was designated a historic site by the city in 1994.
The London Majors play all of their home games at Labatt Park. The team was quick to take to social media to encourage its fans to cast a vote for the London ballpark.
"Well let's be honest. We have the best fans and the best park in the league! Go get your votes in," the Majors tweeted with a link to the competition.
First-round voting closes at 5 p.m next Thursday. To vote click here.
