Provincial police are calling it "a complete disregard for safety" after someone discarded mattresses on the CP Rail tracks northeast of Ingersoll.
The mattresses became stuck under a passing train near the 37th Line in Zorra Township around 2:20 a.m. on Thursday. As a result, the train had to be stopped to dislodge the items. The 21st Line and 15th Line were blocked while crews carried out the work.
Oxford OPP determined the mattresses were tossed on the tracks sometime after 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
"Those who have a complete disregard for the safety and well-being of our citizens can be assured that a focus will be placed on you," said OPP Inspector Anthony Hymers. "The identity of the person(s) responsible for this dangerous act, is a priority as the OPP continues every effort in keeping our communities safe."
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
