A man was taken into custody by London police under the Mental Health Act after an incident involving a samurai sword and a knife.
Police were called to the area of Oxford Street and Wharncliffe Road around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Callers reported a man swinging a samurai sword and a knife.
"Upon police arrival, the man had moved to the area of Wharncliffe Road North and Essex Street and was said to be threatening members of the public with the large sword while asking them to remain six feet away from him," police said in a news release issued Thursday.
Police said officers were able to de-escalate the situation and the 43-year-old man was taken into custody under the Mental Health Act. He was then taken to hospital. No injuries were reported and, according to police, no one on the scene wanted to pursue charges.
Officers seized a sword and two knives.
