UPDATE: Driver dead, passenger seriously injured following crash in Arva

One person has died and another is in hospital with serious injuries following a single-vehicle collision just outside London early Sunday.

OPP, along with Middlesex-London EMS and the Middlesex Centre Fire Department, responded to the collision in Middlesex Centre at around 7:45 a.m. and closed a section of Medway Road between Richmond Street and Wonderland Road -- the area was reopened at around 7 p.m.

Through investigation, police determined that an eastbound vehicle left the roadway, entered a north ditch and struck a hydro pole. As a result, two adults were transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police later confirmed that the driver, an adult male, died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. The passenger, an adult female, is being treated at a local area hospital with serious injuries.

Members of the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation team have been deployed to the area to assist in the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
