'I was so excited': London man wins $190K

In a year that has seemingly had more downs than ups, a London flooring specialist was shocked to have landed a nearly $200,000 lottery win.

Christopher Howell-Harries, 39, claimed the second prize in the May 9 LOTTO 6/49 draw, taking home $190,545.90. He matched five numbers plus the bonus number to win the six-figure prize.

“To be honest, I still don’t really believe it. The year 2020 has been one bizarre thing after another – it’s hard to believe that this golden nugget is true,” said Howell-Harries, while picking up his cheque recently at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.

After learning there were no winning tickets for that date's jackpot, Howell-Harries checked his ticket in hopes of getting a free play. After initially thinking he had won $1,900, he quickly realized it was more than $190,000.

"I was so excited," said Howell-Harries who shared the news immediately with his wife. "We self-scanned the ticket and kept looking at each other, quiet with shock. We spent days giggling about it once it set in."

Howell-Harries plans to use his winnings to treat himself to a new pair of Canadian-made boots, in addition to paying off bills and investing in his flooring business.
