Whether it is picking up a piece of trash or holding the door open for a stranger, the father of Victoria "Tori" Stafford is asking the public to do something kind on Wednesday to mark what would have been his daughter's 20th birthday.
Rodney Strafford made the request on his Facebook page in a post that has been shared more than 9,000 times over the last four days.
"We are asking everyone to partake in 'Random Acts of Kindness.' Kindness starts with one and it doesn't cost a thing to be nice to each other," wrote Stafford.
Tori disappeared while walking home from her Woodstock school on April 8, 2009. The search for the eight-year-old drew national media attention. Her remains were found near Mount Forest roughly three months later. She had been sexually assaulted and murdered. Two people, Michael Rafferty and Terri-Lynne McClintic, were convicted of first-degree murder in Tori's killing. They are both servicing sentences of life in prison.
"Please help us share Victoria's 20th birthday and just be kind for a day," Stafford said in his Facebook post. "If anything should go viral, it should be love towards one another."
The post, which features a photo of Tori, suggests a number of ways to be kind. Among the ideas is helping a child or elderly person across the street, picking up a piece of trash, feeding the birds, and volunteering.
