For the second straight day, no one in London and Middlesex County has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Middlesex London Health Unit said Wednesday there were zero new lab-confirmed cases, leaving the region's total case count since the start of the pandemic at 640. The area has not seen any new cases since Monday, when only one additional case was confirmed.
Another person, previously infected with the virus has since recovered, increasing the London-area's total resolved cases to 570.
No additional COVID-19 related deaths have been reported locally since June 12. The death toll stands at 57.
In Elgin and Oxford counties, another day with zero cases or deaths. Southwestern Public Health, the region’s health unit, said on Wednesday the total number of cases remains at 87. The two counties' death toll is unchanged at five, with no deaths reported since July 3.
Ontario is reporting its lowest number of new infections since the end of March.
Public health officials said there were 102 new confirmed cases over the last 24 hours. That's down from 111 Tuesday and 116 on Monday.
"A 0.3 per cent increase and the lowest number of new daily cases reported since March 25," Health Minister Christine Elliott tweeted on Wednesday.
Thirty-one of the province's 34 health units are reporting five or fewer cases -- 19 of them have no new cases at all.
The province's total case count is now 37,052 with 32,920 cases resolved.
"With 135 more resolved, there are 33 fewer active cases in Ontario as we continue to track a persistent decline in the number of active cases in the province," added Elliott.
There were nine additional COVID-19 related deaths in Ontario on Wednesday. That brings the province's death toll to 2,732.
The number of people in hospital with the virus continues to decrease with 116 people under the care of hospital staff. Of those, 31 are in intensive care, 21 with a ventilator to help them breathe.
More than 23,700 COVID-19 tests were conducted over the past 24 hours.
