Two days after a tractor hauling a wagon load of hay was hit by a train southeast of Ingersoll, charges have been laid against the operator of the farm equipment.
The collision happened at the rail crossing on Daniel Road west of Plank Line in South-West Oxford around 11:10 a.m. on Tuesday. The force of the crash sent the tractor onto its side. It was then pushed a short distance down the tracks before the freight train was able to come to a stop.
The driver of the tractor was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
While the rail crossing is not equipped with safety arms or lights, it does have a crossbuck with a stop sign affixed to it, Oxford OPP said.
A 62-year-old London man has now been charged with disobeying a railway crossing sign by failing to stop.
Police are reminding all drivers to always obey railway warning devices and signs and to look both ways for approaching trains before crossing train tracks.
