City playgrounds reopening Saturday

As of this weekend, children across London will once again be allowed to dangle from the jungle gym and zip down the slide at city-owned playgrounds.

The City of London has announced its park playgrounds will reopen to the public on Saturday. All outdoor play structures had been closed and cordoned off since March 23 in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.

“Thanks to the community’s ongoing commitment in following public health measures, I am happy to say we are able to safely reopen our playgrounds,” Mayor Ed Holder said in a statement. “I know many families will be excited for this news and to once again be able to enjoy playgrounds in neighbourhoods across London.”

The green light to once again allow children back onto the structures was given as part of the province's Stage 3 reopening plan, which took effect in most of the province on Friday.

Parents bringing their children to playgrounds are reminded the amenities are not sanitized, so all users should wash or sanitize their hands after each use.

Those on the structures should also continue to maintain two metres of physical distance from other users, cough or sneeze into their sleeve or elbow, and follow social gathering guidelines.

Signs reminding playground goers of the recommended health and safety measures have been installed near all play areas.
