No new COVID-19 cases, 3 recoveries in London-area

For the first time in just over a week, London and Middlesex County are reporting zero new cases of COVID-19.

The Middlesex London Health Unit said on Tuesday that no one had tested positive for the virus over the past 24 hours. The region has not reported zero new daily cases since July 20.

The case count for the area remains unchanged at 667.

Three more infected individuals have recovered since Monday, bringing the total number of resolved cases in London-Middlesex to 585.

The death total stands at 57 with no additional deaths reported since mid-June.

Southwestern Public Health, the health unit for Elgin and Oxford counties, reported two new lab-confirmed cases on Tuesday. They bring the two counties total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 114. The number of resolved cases and deaths in the region remain unchanged at 82 resolved cases and five COVID-19 related deaths.

Ontario public health officials noted another slight decrease in the daily COVID-19 numbers.

On Tuesday, 111 new cases were confirmed. That is down from the 119 cases reported on Monday, 137 cases on Sunday, and 138 cases on Saturday.

Health Minister Christine Elliott noted Tuesday's numbers represent only a 0.3 per cent increase.

"Locally, 27 of the 34 PHUs [public health units] are reporting 5 or fewer cases, with 16 of them reporting no new cases. Ottawa is reporting 25 cases with 22 more cases in Windsor-Essex. There are only 6 new cases reported in Toronto," Elliott tweeted.

More than 68 per cent of Tuesday's newly confirmed cases are said to be in people under the age of 40, a trend that began to emerge last week.

Ontario's total case numbers now sit at 38,910.

There were four additional deaths reported over the past 24 hours in the province, increasing the death toll to 2,768.

Public health officials said 106 more people previously diagnosed with the virus have recovered, that puts Ontario's number of resolved cases up to 34,567.

There are now under 100 people in hospital with COVID-19.
