A two-vehicle crash southeast of Tavistock has claimed the life of an elderly resident.
Jean Claassen, 85, of Tavistock died from injuries suffered when a northbound vehicle and an eastbound vehicle collided at the intersection of Maplewood Side Road and 16th Line in East Zorra-Tavistock Township around 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday.
Claassen, who was a passenger in the eastbound vehicle, was cut from the wreckage with life-threatening injuries and later died in hospital. The driver from the same vehicle was taken to hospital with series injuries, while the driver of the northbound vehicle suffered minor injuries.
The intersection was closed for several hours while Oxford OPP probed the cause of the collision. It has since reopened.
The investigation is ongoing.
