Trucker charged in crash that killed Ingersoll mother

Charges have been laid against the driver of a transport truck that struck and killed a young mother as she pushed a stroller across the street in Ingersoll.

Ashten Elizabeth Fick, 22, was walking across the street at the intersection of Thames and Charles streets when she was hit by the transport on July 31. The infant in the stroller was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Fick was a mother of three young children and was described as having a vibrant spirit, an infectious grin, and a kind heart. Family and friends held a vigil for the 22-year-old in the days following her death and a memorial of flowers and photos was erected on a bench near where she was struck.

Oxford OPP announced on Thursday that the 23-year-old truck driver has been charged with careless driving and failure to stop at an accident causing death. The accused's name and gender were not released.

The trucker will appear in Woodstock court in relation to the charges at a later date, police said.
