OPP probing Thames Centre house fire

Provincial police are investigating after fire destroyed a house east of London.

According to the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police, crews with the Thames Centre Fire Department were called to 6498 Marion Street around 11:16 p.m. Saturday. A house on the property was burning and, despite the efforts of firefighters, OPP said it was a "total loss."

Police said they are in the early stages of the investigation and are working with the Office of the Fire Marshal.

"One adult male was on scene at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported as a result of the fire," police said.

On Sunday, CTV London reported that it had learned that the fire was started by two men who had tied the homeowner to a tree. When asked to confirm this information, an OPP spokesman would only say, "Right now this is an active investigation and we are following up on all leads. We will provide further details when they are available."

Police are asking anyone with information related to this investigation to contact the Middlesex OPP Crime Unit at 519-681-0300, the OPP Communications Centre at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222 TIPS (8477).
