Wanted St. Thomas man found hiding in attic

Police in St. Thomas trying to arrest a wanted 32-year-old man on Saturday were left standing outside of a home for nearly five hours.

Around 4:30 a.m., officers spotted the man who was wanted on a committal warrant -- a warrant issued when the person who agreed to take responsibility for the accused in a crime backs out forcing a new bail hearing. As officers approached the man, he ran inside of a home on First Avenue and refused to come out.

Police surrounded the home to ensure the man could not escape as they awaited another warrant to enter the house.

Officers, with the assistance of the K9 unit, were granted permission to go inside the home around 9 a.m. They found the wanted man hiding in the attic.

He was taken into custody and is now charged with resisting arrest.
