SIU probing death in Elgin County

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has been called to Elgin County to look into the death of a man in his home.

According to the SIU, officers with the Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police went to the 55-year-old man's home on August 28 to check on his well being. The man was taken to hospital.

Three days later, police were called to the home again. Family members asked police to check on the man's well being. There was no answer when police knocked on the door, but they noticed that the music playing inside became louder. Eventually, the officers left.

The next day, there were called to the house again after the man didn't show up for work. This time, when there was no answer, police forced their way into the home and found the man's body. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday, September 2.

Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call the SIU at 1-800-787-8529.

The SIU is an independent civilian agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
