Five new COVID-19 cases in London-Middlesex

Local health officials have reported five new cases of COVID-19 in London and Middlesex County.

The Middlesex London Health Unit said Friday that the new cases bring the total in the region since the pandemic began to 1,023. After reporting the first coronavirus related death since June on Thursday, officials reported no new deaths on Friday. To date, 58 people have lost their lives to COVID-19 in London and Middlesex County.

Eleven recoveries were reported Friday, lowering the active case count to 88.

Provincially, 712 new cases were reported Friday. That marks five straight days in which the number of new cases in the province eclipsed 700. Nine deaths were also reported Friday.

"Ontario is reporting 712 cases of #COVID19 as over 38,500 tests were completed. Locally, there are 213 new cases in Toronto, 135 in Peel, 108 in Ottawa and 62 in York Region. There are 713 more resolved cases," Health Minister Christine Elliott tweeted on Friday morning.
