Two churches destroyed by fire

Investigations are underway after fires destroyed two churches in Middlesex County.

The Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police and the Chippewa Fire Department were called to a blaze at St. Andrew's Anglican Church on Chippewa Road in Muncey just after 6 a.m. Sunday.

"Members of the CFD (Chippewa Fire Department) worked tirelessly to control the blaze but the church has been deemed to be a complete loss," police said in a news release issued Sunday. "No injuries have been reported at this time."

A photo released by the OPP shows the inside of the church engulfed in flames and the roof caved in.

The Middlesex County OPP Major Crime Unit will be assisting the Office of the Fire Marshal to determine the exact cause of the blaze.

Fire also destroyed South Caradoc United Church early Sunday morning. Fire crews were called to the church at 21054 Muncey Rd. just after midnight.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either fire. It's not known if the two blazes are connected.
