Outbreak declared at London restaurant

The London-area health unit has declared an outbreak at a restaurant in the city after three staff members tested positive for COVID-19.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit said it has been conducting an investigation at Delilah’s, formerly the Barking Frog, located at 209 John St. after it was notified of the positive COVID-19 cases last week. Restaurant management made the decision to temporarily close the business on November 12.

The health unit said it became aware of the cases on November 12, 13, and 14 and established the connection to the restaurant Monday afternoon before declaring the outbreak.

“The risk of transmission in this situation is low, but it isn’t zero. That’s why we’re asking anyone who was at Delilah’s between November 5 and 12 to monitor themselves for the development of COVID-19 symptoms,” said Dr. Alex Summers, the associate medical officer of health with the health unit, in a news release. “In the meantime, we will continue to follow up with these individuals to determine their close contacts, provide the support they need and take steps to prevent any further spread.”

The health unit reported five new cases of the virus on Monday, bringing the total active cases in London and Middlesex County to 124. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,367 cases of the virus have been detected in the London-area.
