Armed robbery charge laid against suspected cell phone thief

A 25-year-old Londoner is facing charges after a man had his cellphone stolen at knife-point late last week.

The man was walking southbound on Adelaide Street North near McMahen Street around 9:15 a.m. last Thursday when he was approached by another man. The individual pulled out a knife and demanded the man's phone before running from the area.

London police were called and after a short foot chase arrested a suspect in the area of Piccadilly and Maitland streets.

A knife was seized and the stolen phone recovered, police said.

No injuries were reported.

A 25-year-old London man is charged with one count of armed robbery. He will appear in London court in relation to the charge on Monday.
