The winter break has come to an end for the province's elementary and high school students, but they won't physically be heading back to the classroom.
Ontario schools remain closed this week with all students set to begin learning remotely.
High school students will be learning online full-time starting Monday and continuing through January 22.
For elementary students, remote learning will be a one week affair. Teachers will reach out to families before the end of the day Monday with virtual classes set to begin on Tuesday. Students in Kindergarten up to Grade 8 will return to in-person learning on January 11.
For children who were in full-time remote learning prior to the winter break there is no change with their classes resuming on Monday.
The provincial government put the new public health orders pertaining to schools in place when it announced the current lockdown on December 21. The delayed start to in-person learning this month is meant to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
Since September, there has been 5,103 COVID-19 cases among Ontario students and 1,094 cases among staff.
In the Thames Valley District school board, there are currently 17 active COVID-19 cases.
