London police seize assault-style rifle during traffic stop

A 20-year-old London man faces weapons charges after police seized an assault-style rifle during a traffic stop early Thursday morning.

At around 12:40 a.m., an officer conducted a routine traffic stop on Wellington Road and, while speaking with the driver, spotted ammunition in the console of the car.

Police say the man was placed under arrest for a weapons investigation, leading the seizure of an SKS rifle, 27 rounds of .39 calibre ammunition, a prohibited magazine clip, and a machete located in the vehicle.

The man is facing charges of possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon, possessing a firearm other than restricted or prohibited firearm without a licence, and occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm.

The accused had a court date set for Thursday.
