Busy Sunday on the water for London emergency crews

Emergency crews were hard at work Sunday after rainfall and warmer temperatures left the Thames River and other bodies of water in hazardous conditions.

Around 11 a.m. Sunday, crews responded to a person falling into the Thames River near Carfrae Street. They were able to swiftly rescue them from the water and get them to shore safely.

Officials did not say how the person fell in.

Later in the day, the London Fire Water Ice Rescue Team removed 16 hockey nets off ponds around the city. They were able to remove them all safely using proper equipment.

"You can stay safe by staying off the dangerous ice conditions," said the Fire Department on Twitter. Fast moving water made the ice on the water unstable in places.

The City issued a message to Londoners on Friday warning that bodies of water in and around the city would be dangerous this weekend. Due to the warmer temperatures, the ice on the water was weakened. Additionally, the banks alongside the water were slippery due to the rainfall and melting snow.
