Traffic stop leads to $42K drug seizure

Five people are facing drug trafficking charges after a routine traffic stop in Woodstock turned up more than $42,500 worth of methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Woodstock police stopped a vehicle in the city around 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Police said the stop was routine, but led to further investigation that ended with the seizure of $40,800 in suspected methamphetamine, $1,850 in suspected fentanyl, and $1,650 cash.

Two Woodstock women, aged 29 and 42, two Kitchener men, aged 42 and 38, and a 37-year-old Tavistock man were arrested. All five have been charged with two counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The 37-year-old from Tavistock, the 29-year-old Woodstock woman, and the 38-year-old Kitchener man also face additional charges of failing to comply.
