The Thames Valley District school board is looking for help naming a pair of schools in southeast London.
The board announced on Wednesday new committees will be formed to decide the names of a new school being built on Meadowgate Boulevard and another being expanded on Tweedsmuir Avenue.
The $16.6 million school being constructed at 2541 Meadowgate Blvd. in the Summerside neighbourhood is scheduled to open in September 2022. It will be home to up to 556 students and have 88 licensed child care spaces.
One committee will be responsible for selecting an appropriate name for the school on Meadowgate.
A second committee will decide on a new name for Tweedsmuir Public School at 349 Tweedsmuir Ave. The school is being consolidated with Fairmont Public School and is undergoing an $11.5 million expansion. Once completed, the school will be able to accommodate 494 students. Fairmont Public is slated to close in June 2022.
"While a majority of Fairmont students will attend Tweedsmuir when construction is completed, the new southeast London school will accommodate students currently attending Fairmont, Princess Elizabeth, and Tweedsmuir Public Schools from holding zones in the area, as well as a portion of students from Westminster Public School," the board said in a statement.
The public will be able to submit suggested names for the two schools this spring through a form available on the board's public input page.
The committees will present their final decisions to the board this fall.
