City officials have fined two women for having a St. Patrick's Day party at a home on Broughdale Avenue.
On March 17, the City of London says bylaw officers received word about a gathering of over ten people indoors at a residence on the notorious party street next to Western University.
Following an investigation, two 21-year-olds have each been issued a fine for hosting an indoor gathering which exceeded the number permitted under the Reopening Ontario Act.
Hosts in violation of the regulations can face a minimum fine of $10,000 on conviction.
"Gathering limits are in place for the well-being of our community, and we will not hesitate to take available enforcement actions when our community is put at risk," said Chief By-Law Officer Orest Katolyk. "The minimum fine, as set by the Province, clearly indicates the seriousness of the offence."
On St. Patrick's Day, London was in the Orange-Restrict zone of Ontario's COVID-19 response framework with private indoor gatherings limited to 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors. Now that the region is in Red-Control, residents are reminded the limits on social gatherings are restricted to five people indoors, though outdoor numbers are the same.
