MLHU: Child care workers will be vaccine eligible on Thursday

It's time for daycare owners and staff to roll up their sleeves.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has announced that child care workers will be the next group in the population that is eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccination.

According to a news release from the health unit, child care workers are defined as:

  • Licensees, employees and students on an educational placement who interact directly with children in licensed child care centres and in authorized recreation and skill building  programs.
  • Licensed home child care and in-home service providers, employees of a home child care  agency and students on an educational placement who interact directly with children in a licensed home child care setting.
Employers will be asked to pre-register their facilities, under the category "essential workers who can not work from home" and workers will be eligible to register for their appointment as of Thursday morning.

The MLHU said workers in unlicensed child care settings will be eligible once they receive further direction from the province.

According to the Health Unit, more than 150,000 doses of the vaccine have been administered in Middlesex-London.
