A crash between a transport truck and a road painter protection vehicle on Highway 401 near West Lorne sent one person to hospital with serious injuries.
Emergency crews were called to the eastbound lanes of the highway between Graham Road and the Dutton ONRoute service centre around 4 p.m. on Monday. Elgin OPP determined the protection vehicle was hit from behind by the eastbound tractor trailer.
The crash caused a small fire that ignited the grass along the highway. It was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
The transport driver was airlifted to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, while the driver of the protection vehicle was not hurt.
The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for nearly six hours. They were reopened around 8:45 p.m.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
