Charges laid in Mornington Avenue fire

Just over three weeks after a fire was intentionally set at an east London apartment building, London police say charges have been laid.

The blaze that sent one person to hospital with minor injuries broke out around 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, April 25 in a third floor unit at 563 Mornington Avenue. Firefighters were quick to get the scene and douse the flames, but not before about $200,000 in damage was done.

London police determined the fire was intentionally set and on Wednesday announced charges against a London man. Brandon James McDougall, 28, is charged with arson causing property damage and arson with disregard for human life.

He is to appear in court July 28, 2021.
