Homes evacuated after single-vehicle crash severs gas line

A woman was taken to hospital and several homes had to be evacuated after a car crashed into a house, severing a gas line near London's downtown Friday.

Emergency crews were called to the collision at 122 Maitland St., near Hill Street just before 9: 30 a.m.

A vehicle went off the road, hit the home and damaged a gas line, London police said. People were cleared from neighbouring homes as a precaution.

The woman driving the vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries. No one else was hurt.

Enbridge Gas and London Hydro cut power and gas to the area while crews worked to repair the line.

A section of Maitland Street is closed. There is no word on when it will be reopened.
