Arson charges laid in Albert St. apartment fire

A 25-year-old woman has been charged with arson in connection with a fire that forced the evacuation of a London highrise earlier this year.

Firefighters were called to the six-storey building at 136 Albert Street on January 31 after fire broke out on the third floor. No one was hurt, but the fire temporarily displaced 60 residents.

Damage was estimated at $25,000.

The fire was deemed suspicious in nature in the days that followed.

On Friday, police announced they had made an arrest in the case.

A London woman, 25, is charged with arson causing property damage and arson with disregard for human life. She will appear in London court in relation to the charges on August 5.
