Police officer assaulted trying to remove man sitting on road

Four Londoners are facing charges after a police officer was assaulted while trying to stop a man from sitting in the middle of a city street Thursday night.

The man was reported to be sitting on the road, blocking traffic in the area of Pond Mills and Thompson roads around 9:30 p.m.

Officers located the man sitting with two other men. When they approached, one of the men punched an officer twice.

Two other men and a woman then attempted to stop the officer from arresting the man. The officer was assaulted a second time, police said.

Additional police were called to the scene and all four people were arrested.

The officer was not injured.

A 22-year-old man and a 23-year-old man, both from London, are charged with assaulting a peace officer. A 23-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, from London are charged with obstructing a peace officer.

All four of the accused are scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges on August 19.
