Soggy start to the day Tuesday

Parts of southwestern Ontario are in line to get a soaking Tuesday morning.

Showers and thunderstorms are moving northeast across the region. According to Environment Canada, some of the most severe storms pack heavy downpours that could drop up to 40 mm of rain in less than an hour.

As such the national weather agency has issued a special weather statement for London-Middlesex, Oxford County, Elgin County, and Sarnia-Lambton.

"Frequent lightning and wind gusts to near 60 km/h are also associated with some of the strongest thunderstorms," Environment Canada said.

Drivers are warned of reduced visibility in heavy downpours and water pooling on roads.

The thunderstorms are expected to move out of the area by noon.
