A busted cooling system at University Hospital has been repaired, allowing for non-urgent appointments and procedures to resume next week.
The London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), which operates the north London hospital, announced on Friday the system is back up and running and indoor temperatures have returned to normal.
One of the three units required to properly cool the facility went down at the start of the week, the same time that hot, humid weather settled into the region. That led the LHSC to limit itself to urgent and emergent services. Hospital officials said the action was taken to "ensure patient comfort" by limiting the number of people inside the hospital.
"We understand that having an appointment postponed this past week may be frustrating for patients and families. We thank our community for their support, patience and understanding," the LHSC said in a statement.
Patients who had an appointment or procedure postponed as a result of the cooling system failure will be contacted to reschedule. The hospital's visitor policy will also expand in alignment with current pandemic measures.
