Labour Day closures in London

The Labour Day long weekend has arrived.

Celebrated on the first Monday in September, Labour Day marks the progress and accomplishments of the labour union movement in the country. It is also seen as the final kick at the summer can for families with children heading back to the classroom.

As a statutory holiday, the day comes with a number of closures.

Below is a list of what’s open and closed in London on Labour Day:

CLOSED:

Government offices (municipal, provincial, and federal) Canada Post (no mail delivery) Malls (including White Oaks Mall, Masonville Place, and Westmount Shopping Centre) Banks LCBO Grocery stores Costco Wholesale London Public Library branches (digital library resources remain available) Most drug stores (Shoppers Drug Mart locations at 510 Hamilton Rd. and in Sherwood Forest Mall at 1225 Wonderland Rd. N will be open from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. The location at 1224 Commissioners Rd.W. will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.)

OPEN:

Labatt Retail Store on Horton St. – 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Select Beer Stores (London locations at 414 Wharncliffe Rd. S and 1600 Dundas St. E will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) Fanshawe Conservation Area (for campsite availability call 1-866-668-2267) City spray pads – 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. (locations of the city’s spray pads can be found here) Movie theatres COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Clinic at the Western Fair District Agriplex open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre COVID-19 Assessment Centre at 656 Elizabeth Street open from 9:20 a.m. to 6:30 p.m The LTC will be running on a holiday schedule, regular service resumes on Tuesday.

Due to the pandemic, the London and District Labour Council will not be holding its annual picnic again this year. It will instead move its celebration online. The virtual event will be held on Facebook Live and Zoom from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It will honour the contributions of frontline workers over the past 18 months. The council said in addition to messages from labour leaders and guests the event will include musical performances.

Children in both the Thames Valley District School Board and the London District Catholic School Board return to school on Tuesday. For those participating in in-person learning it will be the first time they are physically back in the classroom since schools were closed across the province in April.
