It's not official yet, but the London Health Sciences Centre is expected to approve a vaccination policy for all hospital visitors soon.
During a virtual media briefing on Monday, LHSC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Adam Dukelow announced the hospital is working on a policy that will require proof of vaccination for visitors including care partners.
"We haven't actually established an exact date for implementation yet but anticipate that it will be in the next few weeks," Dr. Dukelow said. "We are working with our patient and family advisors to develop this policy and will share more information as we prepare for implementation."
It takes up to five weeks from a first dose to be considered fully vaccinated, hospital officials say. As far as exceptions go, Dukelow said there won't be very many. He added that the community is advised to seek vaccination as soon as possible if they intend on visiting either Victoria or University Hospital any time in the near future.
Last month, the province announced a vaccine passport program that requires Ontarians aged 12 and over to be fully vaccinated and show proof of vaccination upon attending establishments such as restaurants and bars, nightclubs, event spaces, sport and fitness facilities, cinemas and more.
As of Monday, the LHSC is caring for eight in-patients with COVID-19, with five or fewer in intensive care. Additionally, the hospital has reported around 92 per cent of hospital staff and 99 per cent of physicians have submitted proof of being fully vaccinated.
